RESPONDERS

First Responders are exposed to:
Death, grief, injury, pain / loss, direct exposure to threats to personal safety, long hours of work, frequent shifts, poor sleep, physical hardships, and other negative experiences.

Approximately 85 percent of first responders have experienced symptoms related to mental health issues.

EMT - P.T.S.D: 20 percent.
EMT - Alcohol/Drug Use: 40 percent.

Police After 2 Years - Alcoholism: 27 percent.
Police After 4 years - Alcoholism: 36 percent.

Firefighters - Drug Abuse: 10 percent.
Firefighters - Alcohol Abuse: 29 percent.

First Responders With P.T.S.D - Substance Abuse: 20 percent.

In 2017, 103 firefighters died by suicide; more than the 93 firefighters who died in the line of duty.
