Alcoholism

Annual deaths attributed to excess alcohol intake:

120,000 male deaths 59,000 female deaths

Alcohol is a leading preventable cause of death in the Unites States.

"Alcohol Use Disorder is the second most common mental disorder and involved in roughly 1 in 4 deaths by suicide."

- National Institute of Health (November, 2024)

In 2018,  youths aged 12–17 had AUD [Alcohol Use Disorder], including 173,000 males and 227,000 females...
Of this group, only approximately 5% received treatment.

More than 1 in 10 children in the U.S. have a parent with a drinking issue.

"696,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 are assaulted by another student who has been drinking", annually.

Detoxing and/or seeking medical assistance to detox may be necessary if you experience:
 

  • Intense urges to drink alcohol

  • A need to increase the amount of alcohol being consumed

  • Failing to meet follow through with obligations due to alcohol use (or due to sleeping/feeling sick after drinking)

  • Drinking alcohol, despite familial problems arising

  • Risk taking behaviors while under the influence (examples: unsafe driving, unprotected sex, operating heavy machinery, etc.)

  • Unintentionally drinking more/longer than intended

  • Attempting to stop, but could not resist consuming alcohol

  • Shakiness after time without alcohol consumption

  • Vomiting after time without alcohol consumption

  • Difficulty sleeping after time without alcohol consumption

  • Difficulty breathing

  • Depression and/or anxiety
